Invisalign offers comfort without damaging your looks.

Wearing braces has always been a bane to many people who want to have neat and attractive rows of teeth. However, conventional dental braces are uncomfortable to wear, and they must be in place 24 hours a day until they have done their job, i.e. to straighten the teeth.

For some years now, dental patients have discovered a new type of dental braces called Invisalign , a near invisible, clear, removable set of teeth aligners that do not require metal wires or unsightly (and uncomfortable) attachments to achieve the same result. It works by having “trays” adhered onto the teeth, and aligners that snugly fit into the teeth to gradually pull the teeth into position. These aligners need to be adjusted every two weeks to ensure proper alignment.

Invisalign straightens your teeth in a comfortable manner. The course of treatment involves changing aligners approximately every two weeks, moving your teeth into straighter position step by step, until you have a more beautiful smile. And unlike braces, these clear aligners can be removed while you eat and brush your teeth as usual.

Since Invisalign is practically invisible, very few people will notice at all, unless attention is drawn to these invisible aligner. They’re comfortable to wear and can be removed easily when you need to eat, brush your teeth, and to floss them.

The advantage is clear: the ability to have them removed while eating, and to be cleaned separately before inserting back onto your teeth. This also prevents food particles being trapped between the aligners, unlike conventional braces that can. Patients are advised to keep the aligners clean by brushing at least once a day.

Another important point to note is that, Invisalign wearers are not required to change their diet or lifestyle to ensure maximum benefit. However, it is important that the aligners are worn at least for 20 hours a day to enable the tooth realignment to take place. The Invisalign aligners are also highly durable, in that they are quite resistant to wear and tear, and will not break easily.

This treatment option is however not suitable for everybody. Patients with short teeth are not suitable for using Invisalign because the contact area between the teeth and the Invisalign “trays” is not adequate. The treatment can be combined with a short course of braces and this will minimise the time patient spends wearing traditional braces.
