Invisalign effectively helps straighten teeth without using ugly wires or visible attachments.

A smile can be an inexpensive way to change your look; more so if you have perfect teeth. If you suffer from uneven teeth, correcting the alignment of your teeth can drastically improve your looks.

Dental braces is a device used in orthodontics to align teeth and their position. They are used to correct conditions such as underbites, overbites, crowded teeth and spacings. Although they are mainly used on children and teenagers, adults can also wear them to correct some dental conditions.

Dental braces come in various types, ranging from metal braces to ceramic ones that are less unsightly. Some people might consider dental braces a necessary “evil” to beautify one’s appearance. Moreover, this treatment takes a long time, while the patient have to endure unsightly looks every time he or she flashes a smile. Worse, discomfort caused by abrasion between the sharp edges of the brackets and inner side of the mouth can sometimes result in mouth ulcers.

Invisalign is a new kind of braces (more accurately, aligners) that correct crooked teeth almost imperceptibly. By using a series of clear, removable aligners, Invisalign straightens teeth more comfortably than traditional braces do. The treatment involves changing customised aligners, which the patient fits onto the entire row of teeth, every two weeks or so, over a period ranging from 9 to 18 months. Each aligner moves the teeth stage by stage until the last aligner moves the teeth to their final straightened positions.

Since Invisalign is lightweight and transparent, most people are unable to tell that a person has them on. It is perfect for the working adult who wants his or her teeth straightened without compromising their professional look. Unlike braces, Invisalign can be removed and fitted back onto the teeth easily, which makes it convenient for meals and normal brushing of the teeth.

“Most of my patients are happy with the fact that the aligners are not visible to their friends, colleagues and family members. In fact I had a patient who managed to keep her treatment a secret from her spouse and children over a one year period,” says Dr Tan Kok Liang, Orthodontist at embrace Dental Surgery.

Best of all, Invisalign is safe to wear even during sporting activities including diving and contact sports. Invisalign is highly effective in patients with anterior cross-bites, mild to moderate crowding, spacings and anterior open bites (front teeth of both jaws do not meet).
